More Park Fun!

I swear our Little Bee is part monkey! She takes full advantage of all park equipment and really gives us a run for our money. Daddy was super busy running after her while Mommy caught it all on film. ( and disciplined stranger teenagers who were trying to skateboard down the slide!!! The fact that I did this confirms my "I'm turning into my mother fears")
Wheeee!
Just getting in a few chin ups. Gotta work the guns!
We have so much fun with this little monkey! She has taken to climbing on top of furniture and pretending to be a monkey while saying, "oo-oo, ah-ah". Not sure where she got that but it is hysterical - which means it gets repeated frequently. Our Little Bee will do anything for a laugh.

Happy 90th Birthday Grandpa!

Today is my Grandpa Wray's 90th birthday! Ellen's middle name, James, is in honor of my grandfather. Grandpa is pretty special to us and a pretty amazing man. He was in the Navy and at Normandy on D-Day. He also graduated from Baylor and is still a practicing attorney. He litigates less now and spends more time writing. He is an inspiration to his firm who sometimes call him "Matlock". Grandpa is a Baptist, but the kind of Baptist who believes in Women's rights! and dancing, and teaches his Sunday school class every Sunday. He and I are the only Democrats in the family. When I turned 18 he sent me a card that encouraged me to remember by duty to vote and that my vote was to be kept in confidence between me and God. He then reminded me that God is a Democrat. When Grandpa write letters sometimes you need Cece to interpret them because his handwriting is hard to read. So is mine. Grandpa used to like to go fishing but his boat broke down a lot. He also makes really great pancakes and whistles the whole time he makes them. If you dig in the garden by his front door you can find really cool old marbles that he threw at a noisy woodpecker when my mom was little. I love that he still lives in the house where my mom grew up. I have so many memories of this house. Grandpa used to tend a huge vegetable garden in the back yard and Aunt Muffy and I loved to help him harvest. If it wasn't for that garden I don't think I would have ever harvested vegetables. One time Grandpa and I talked about my future and I shared that I might want to be a lawyer. He encouraged me to pick a different field. I can't really remember why. Guess I should ask... When I was little Grandpa and I would play in my parent's old den while listening to Burl Ives records. I love those records but my Grandpa can sing better than Burl. When I was in high school, my grandmother got a white toy poodle. My cousin, Maudie, named him Cottonball. Cottonball refused to eat dog food and stole things from the house that he horded in his dog bed. He hid pine cones, socks, tooth brushes, ornaments and one time he hid my grandmother's teeth. Cottonball, or CB as Grandpa called him, really only liked my Grandpa. If anyone else got near him he turned into a snarling ball of fluff and teeth. I didn't get to close but Aunt Muffy did and cut the hair on his ears very short. He never forgave her.
I am so glad that Ellen has gotten to know Grandpa. She loves him and loves playing the same games with him that I did. They play "Tom Tinker", "Great Big Hawk", and "Got your Nose". We are really looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday and many more.

Park Date

This weekend Ellen had a park date with her buddy, Charlie. She insisted on bringing her toy dog and talked to it on the way to the park. "Come on doggy. Doggy walk."
As always, Ellen and Charlie had a great time playing together. Can you see Ellen's hands? She was trying to catch Charlie as he flew down the slide.
Charlie thought that digging with two shovels was a great way to spend the afternoon!
The two indulged us for a brief photo on top of the slide. Ellen is cutting four teeth at once! So crazy- her teeth have all seemed to come in groups like that.
I love the look being exchanged between Charlie and Lloyd in this shot. I have no idea what it is about but it is sweet!

PotW: Toddler Sleep Trainer/Alarm Clock

Y'all these product of the weeks are draining my bank account! I love all of the great things everyone is posting about. I really hope my product helps someone out there get some extra sleep. We were "blessed" with an early riser. Our Little Bee wakes up at 5:00 AM every.single.day! She does not care if it is Saturday, a holiday, or if Mommy had a few too many ritas the night before. Now that she is in her toddler bed she can just scoot into our room asking for milk and cartoons whenever she wants! For a while I felt like we were back to the days of sleep deprivation that can only be understood by someone who has had a newborn. I had seen this Kids Sleep Classic Toddler Wake Training Alarm Clock in a magazine way before I was pregnant and thought it seemed like a good idea. You program the clock for wake and sleep time. When the part of the clock that has a picture of a cow awake lights up, your toddler can get up., When the cow that is sleeping lights up, your toddler better get back to bed. Ellen got the whole "it's dark outside so I am supposed to be asleep" thing but for some reason she didn't care. She does however care about whether the "moo is sleeping" or "moo is up". We started by setting the "moo" to be up at 5:00 AM and are slowly letting the "moo" sleep in a little more each day. This weekend her Daddy let her in our bed around 6:00 AM (yea! Not 5:00 AM!) and I questioned this. He answered, "the moo is up. What do you want me to do?" So, our family is all trained to follow the "moo" and we are all getting a little bit more sleep along the way!
If anyone is thinking about the transition to a toddler bed, you might consider this Kids Classic Toddler Wake Training Alarm Clock! Love, The Little Bee's Momma

Cuddle Bug

Ellen has been so cuddly lately! I have not been feeling well and when we are laying in bed together she strokes my face saying, "oh, honey, honey, aww, Mommy". I know that she is replicating the care she gets from her sweet teacher, Ms. Angela. I love this! It really makes me know that she is loved and cared for when she doesn't feel good and I am not there.
These first pictures are of Ellen giving me a lecture about some things that are in our backyard that she wanted me to be aware of. (Sounds like "foggy coupe"... Still a big topic of convo at our house.) She looks so serious!
Muffy came by and interrupted this informational series. "Aww, Mutty, aww."
"Hi, Mutty, hi!"
Muffy get lots of kisses and love from our cuddly girl.

Stompin Rain Puddles

Last weekend Ellen spent a rainy two days at the farm.
She always knows how to make the best of things...
and had a great time stomping in the rain puddles.
She even got Mommy in on the fun!
Have a great Saturday! Love, The Little Bee and her Momma

Happy Go Texan Day!

Happy Go Texan Day from the Pinkest Cowgirl I know!
Ellen is very excited for her Go Texan Day at School today.
She really wanted to wear her pink cowgirl boots but they are still a little bit big. Maybe next year, sweet girl.

Prissy Cop

Ellen is really loving pretend play right now. I am not sure if she is going for a prissy cop, Madonna, or Elton John here? I may not know what she is supposed to be but I do know that she is super cute!

New Orange Tree!

In last year's freeze we lost our kumquat tree. I was pretty sad about this because it was a beautiful tree but then I got busy and we lived with a dead tree in our yard for a year. One weekend I decided I could not look at it one second longer and Lloyd saw a chainsaw in his afternoon plans. Poor Lloyd, I am continually dreaming up big house projects that demand his immediate attention and usually some manual labor. He is great about doing these as long as he can also get some golf in. After cutting the tree down he came inside and showed me how he almost cut his foot off with a slip of the chain saw! It was pretty scary and cost us a new pair of tennis shoes. Close call...
Uncle John will randomly call us and ask things like, "Do you want an extra fig tree?" or "I have an orange tree you can have". I always say yes and just figure out the logistics later. When the call came this time, we were ready! Ellen and Daddy got right to planting this new tree.
Ellen had a great time helping Daddy dig in the dirt and wearing her rain boots to water the tree.
Uncle John predicts that we will have fruit on this tree within the year! We can't wait. Love, The Little Bee and her Momma

ToddlerArt Display

I am a sucker for Ellen's art work. I just love all of her projects but I hate clutter. I have never been one to keep a bunch of junk around the house. It makes me feel claustrophobic. I get such a thrill from organizing things and throwing needless things away. Seriously, it shouldn't make me so happy. However, I find it hard to part with the work that she is so proud of. Pinterest is full of great ideas about art storage and I plan to scan her best pieces and have a photo book printed at some point. In the meantime I wanted a way to display her work that wouldn't drive me crazy. In redecorating her playroom I took down the too formal curtains. I began looking for some pink and green curtains to match our design scheme but came up with this solution instead. My mother had some extra black shower curtain hooks that I spray painted silver to match our existing curtain rod. These hooks are perfect for showing off Ellen's latest projects.
She loves to bring home her work and show it to Mommy and Daddy who make a fuss over adding to the collection. She tells us, "I paint" or "I color", explaining her creative process. Love, The Little Bee and her Momma

Sesame Street Live!

I wanted to start this post off with a picture that will surely prompt Aunt Mufffy to call me for a fashion consultation. She tried to get me to promise I would refrain from posting any pictures on the Internet of me in my Elmo shirt. She also does not approve of this shirt being work in public and I am clearly breaking both of these rules right now!
Ellen also broke this "No Elmo shirts" rule and thought we looked pretty fancy! We took this fashion risk at a recent Sesame Street Live show. Our whole family played hooky with Davis, Preston and their Mommies. We all agreed that this was way more fun that working on a Friday!
The kiddos thought the 2nd row seats that Davis's Mommy scored were pretty great!
Of course Daddy bought cotton candy, popcorn and a huge Elmo balloon "for" Ellen. Daddy is pretty much into spoiling his girls any second he gets. It is not unusual for me to be in the toy aisle explaining to him why Ellen doesn't need that new toy...
Ellen LOVED this show and had her eyes glued to the stage the entire time. She sang, blew kisses, and waved at the characters.
I have to say that this show was much better than Yo Gabba Gabba Live. Both were good and we had a great time but Sesame Street just seemed more organized and like a higher quality production. All that was lost on Ellen who thought both were the most fun she has ever had.

Babin Suit!

Well, Pinterest struck again when a friend of mine pinned this cute bathing suit. Is Pinterest as hard on your budget as it is on mine? I immediately began to think about how cute it would be with a monogram. Ellen is looking forward to a great summer lounging at her BFF Betsy's new Tiki pool. Mommy is looking forward to the yummy Miami Vices that Betsy's family makes...

Big Girl Bed Update

Mommy and Ellen have been busy adjusting to the new big girl bed and I haven't had time to give y'all an update on how that is going. The day that she fell out of her bed I scoured the Internet for the cutest bed and bedding I could find and ordered it. In the mean time we had to find a way to work with what we had at home. Ellen helped her Daddy take one side off of her crib - which it was not designed to do and scared Mommy a bit. Ellen loves helping her Daddy will tools!
I was pretty nervous that she would fall out of bed so I laid the chaise lounge cushion next to her bed and stacked it with some cushy blankets. Here she is sleeping in her crib for the last night. My sweet baby bee is growing up into a big girl!
Her new bed and bedding arrived and I was so excited to put it all together. It really is as cute as I hoped it would be. Ellen loves her new bed and hoped right in it when she saw it. She is so proud of it and loves to show it off to anyone who comes over.
She has done a pretty good job of adjusting to sleeping in her bed and the new found freedom this allows. Daddy and I had a scare the other night when she locked herself in her room at 3:00 AM (on a work night). Other than that we are all getting adjusted to this change and living to tell about it. This was definitely a hard change but then they all seem hard at the time and easier upon reflection. I am so proud of Ellen and how much she loves to try new big girl things. I just wish she would still let me rock her to sleep. Right now she prefers to have books read to her while we cuddle in her (itty bitty) bed. Last night she was super sweet and almost said her whole bed time prayer by herself. She never stops amazing me. Love, The Little Bee and her Momma

Product of the Week: Chalk Ink Pen

I am an avid Pinterest pinner! Seriously, that is the most addictive site ever. I have been so inspired by all of the great chalk board projects and have tried my hand at a few of them. I saw these Chalk Ink Pens on Pinterest and immediately ordered them.
I had them for a while before I saw these cute mini chalk boards at World Market. At two for $3.49 I thought they would be a cute way to dress up bottles of wine.
I love to bring a good bottle of wine as a hostess gift and think these little personalized touches make it so much more fun. Can't wait to go check out the other Products of the Week! Love, The Little Bee's Momma
